I'm not a fan of ditching a young defenseman. I think some people have unrealistic expectations. Look at Hedman here in Tampa. It takes time.

Besides, he's not worth a 7th. That's an overpayment.

I hope Helgeson makes it some day. Now that Urbom's a bum, I need to find a new lumbering, Hal Gil-like defenseman to root for.

Ugh the whole roster situation right now is such a cluster(frank).

You have to think Lou and Ryan Carter had some kind of agreement that he was going to be apart of this team for at least this upcoming season. I have a hard time believing that there weren't a handful of teams that offered him a contract. Why in the hell would he risk stability and possible millions of $ to come for a tryout ?

Carter aid he got a few contract offers but wanted to see if he could remain a devil

NJ should throw a 6-7th rounder to Toronto for Carter Ashton. Could add another young body to the prospect pool on the cheap.

I wonder if Gomez will play tomorrow. If not, game 6 is going to be like a playoff game for Gomez. These last 2 games are huge for our 2 4th lines.

They have too many defenseman and will have to send either him, Prout, or Erixon through waivers and since Erixon will be the 7th guy and Prout in the top six, Goloubef is the odd man out. He's a PMD., I like him. Todd mentioned him in his Columbus post.

May as well put in a claim, can always package some D prospects for a FW prospect.

Sal can sit. If Salvador and Harrold are the 7th and 8th defenseman, or Goloubef, but he would be better than Sal and Harrold, than there is. Severson and Helgeson will most likely start in Albany anyways.

We can only have 23 roster players. Unless we start dumping a bunch of forwards there's only room for 7 active dmen.

I think Severson and Helgeson should be in Albany and be a top pair together. There's no reason why not. I don't think they're THAT much better than Harrold to warrant sitting on the bench while waiting for an injury or a Larsson/Gelinas benching. The smart choice is to play the full season in Albany and if we have an injury or 2, then call one up. I'd rather they be in Albany playing hockey than in NJ watching. It's not as if Severson has spent years in the A either..

Gelinas looks beast mode so far. It is nice to be in a "who is better" situation rather than another "who is the least bad" situation.

We have 14 forwards, 9 defenseman, and 3 goalies signed. Severson and Helgeson will be in Albany and either Clemmensen/Kinkaid. That's gives us 23 players, this does not include Gomez, Tootoo, Carter. If one or two are signed, and Bernier, Gionta sent down, or trades occur like Brunner/Ryder than we would have enough room for him.
